About Judith von Hopf
Judith von Hopf spent her childhood years in Dayton, Ohio. Her mother, a piano teacher, enrolled Judith in piano lessons at the age of three after seeing her teach herself to play by ear. At age seven, Judith began studying with Olga Conus, who had taught at the Moscow Conservatory and after immigrating to the U.S., taught at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. At twelve, Judith discovered the instrument which would become her lifelong passion: the flute. She studied with Robert Cavally who taught at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and was flutist in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Judith went on to receive many scholarships and awards.
Judith's music career includes solo performances with the Dayton Philharmonic, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Athens Orchestra, and Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California, and performs regularly in many southern California venues.
For the past few years, Judith has been working to expand the flute repertoire. As an advocate of new music, Judith has commissioned flute concertos from Carson Cooman, Brent Pierce and Yevhen Stankovych. Revisited works include new recordings of Flagello's Concerto Antoniano and Pendleton's Alpine Concerto. She had Prokofiev's Flute Sonata orchestrated and recorded it and she transcribed for flute, Ralph Vaughan Williams' violin fantasy, The Lark Ascending.
Judith von Hopf's skill is not limited to music, however. Since 1976 she has been a successful business owner in southern California. Judith von Hopf, Inc. is a flourishing international Visual Merchandising company. Since 2011, her daughter Melissa has been at it's helm, and Judith is able to realize her dream of returning to her first love,music.
